We've been working hard to come up with new classes and events for the summer. The following schedule takes us through July. International instructor, David Taylor will be teaching turned-edge machine applique and free-motion quilting on your domestic machine in July. We haven't had him teach for us in a while. This is an opportunity you don't want to miss.

We have also scheduled the new KImberbell event Patriotic Parade. We hope you can join us for a fun-filled day of machine embroidery as help you with table decor for your 4th of July celebration.

Check out the other class selections. Start the summer off learning a new skill or mastering something you've tried before.

We encourage you to sign-up online. However, I have been told that that there are times when the website will tell you a class is full. That is usually not true. If you should get that message, please call the store - 970-495-1766 - to verify that we are totally booked. I would hate for you to miss a class you really want when we still have spaces available.

As always, there are new fabrics arriving every week, as well as new books and patterns for project inspiration. We hope you'll stop in and see us soon.

Class Policies

1. You may register for most classes until the day the class begins - exceptions would be classes where we have to prepare a kit for each participant. That said; remember that there are minimum enrollment requirements as well as maximum student number limitations. So you may not want to wait until the last minute to reserve your space.
2. Payment of the entire class fee is required upon registration.
3. Refunds will be given if for some reason the class has to be cancelled or if notification is given by the student at least one week before the class is to begin.
4. Classes will be cancelled one week prior to the start date if enrollment is not sufficient.
5. Students will be given a 10% discount on all supplies purchased at The Fig Leaf for classes requiring materials (kits excluded). Discounts will be given only after the class fee has been paid and will last only for the duration of the class.

Kimberbell Digital Dealers Exclusive 2026 Mistletoe Mystery Quilt

You can still join us for a fun filled year of machine embroidery making the Mistletoe Mystery Quilt.

You'll learn a variety of techniques including machine embroidered applique, quilting in-the-hoop, piecing in-the-hoop and freestanding lace. You'll also try embellishing with applique glitter, micro velvet, embroidery leather and jelly vinyl.

The name hints at this being a Christmas quilt, and that hint is correct, but that's as much as we can say. Solve the mystery, month-by-month as you stitch your blocks and Laura builds the quilt on the digital fabric panel provided by Kimberbell. Our class is lecture/demonstration style, so you don't have to bring your machine to class.

Open sew will also be an opportunity to get help. Laura will be handy to lend her expertise on quilting, embroidery, and sewing of all kinds.

Art Quilts from Photographs

4 Sessions

Initial session- Friday May 15 1pm-3pm

work sessions- Fridays June 19 & 26, & July 3 1pm-5pm

In this 4 session class we will be making 26x34” art quilts using a personal photo. You will have the option to pick and choose from a variety of offered techniques and ideas, all of which include raw edge app.

There are no hard-fast rules to making these art quilts, you will be encouraged to let go, get loose, and allow imperfections. This ought be an enjoyable experience!

Students will have a ready to quilt piece by the end of class (or close to). As well as a discussion, and info to take home regarding how to finish your masterpiece. My hopes are that students will gain new knowledge, and be left inspired to create another art quilt on your own.

In session 1, we go over fabric, supplies, and subject matter. Students will bring 2-4 photo options (digital or physical). Photos need to be on the simpler side. Such as a head portrait, or other single subject image. A couple subjects may be possible, depending on complexity. Ideas include, pets/animals, babies/children, basic landscape. Bring your options, and we will determine in class the best photo to use. The instructor will take copies of final photos, and create patterns pre-printed on cotton lawn fabric.

Patterns will be ready by session 2, where we will dive in!

Laura Heine Collage Quilts

   These beautiful collage quilts by Laura Heine are all the rage right now. Have you been wanting to try one? Made one before and want to do it again with some friends? Join us for a two session class where we will work together on them! 

First session, we will dive right in, so be sure to get a supply list. Bring any Laura Heine collage pattern to work on.

June Classes

Coiled Rope Projects

Monday June 15th

10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Come try your hand at making a rope basket or set of coasters. We have a variety of kits to choose from all of which can be completed in a few hours or less. We'll teach you the basics and show you some additional techniques for wrapping your rope with bits of fabric for a splash of color and a great way to use up left over jelly roll strips.

You will need to bring your sewing machine that is able to do a zig zag stitch and be prepared to have a good time!

Minky/Cuddle Critters

Shannon Fabrics recently released their all-new 'Cuddle Critters', a laser-cut kit that makes these adorable plushies. And we are going to make them together!
